St Brigids 1-6 Ballyboughal 1-11
The first team’s good run continued on a wet Wedensday evening in Blanchardstown with a hard fought win over a gallant St Brigids team.
Brigids who were second in the table heading into the match were first out of the blocks and opened the scoring with a point in the first 3 minutes. Boughal to their credit did not panic and settled into the game with a couple of scores from Gerry Seaver. With a strong wind behind them in the first half, the lads were able to build up some momentum and were 0-8 to 0-1 up at half time thanks to a combination of great defending by the backs, in particular Ian Rooney and some fine forward movement from Seaver and Greg Rooney in the corners.
The second half was always going to be a battle and so it proved to be – From the throw in Brigids went about reducing the deficit and had two quick points to show for their efforts. A long high ball into the Boughal defence midway through the second half caused some panic in the Boughal defense, resulting in the easiest of tap ins for the Brigids corner forward. This left one score between the teams but to their credit, the Boughal lads kept their nerve and went back up the field to register the next point. The defining moment of the game following shortly after – a promising Brigid’s attack was defending brilliantly by the Boughal defense and from the turnover ball, at least 7 players were involved in a move up the length of the field resulted in a sublime goal for Seaver. This extended the lead back to 6 and although Brigids applied the pressure for the last 10 minutes of the game, the lads hung on for victory to maintain their unbeaten in the league. Best on the night for the Boughal were Ian Rooney, Eoin O Brien who managed to win some vital breaking ball in the second half, and Gerry Seaver who ended up with a most impressive 1-10 on the night.
Up next for the lads is a home fixture against St. Judes on Saturday
